Matthias Schwengler (*1986)

Matthias Schwengler stands out as one of the most versatile trumpeters of his generation, having crafted a unique and distinct sound over the years. Constantly exploring new tones, he seamlessly blends jazz with complex styles from the Balkans, Arabic countries, and Latin America, creating music with a rich and globally infused character. His ability to integrate these diverse influences sets him apart in the jazz world. After studying at several european music conservatories Matthias Schwengler is currently based in Cologne, where he leads two of his own combos and is also a member of various other groups.

Whether in pop gigs with Moop Mama, Mark Forster, Jimmy Kelly, and Stefanie Heinzmann, or as the lead trumpet player in various salsa and big bands, Matthias brings his rich, versatile sound to every performance. In his own bands, he has developed a distinctive chamber, dark sound, taking listeners on a journey through a variety of cultures and musical landscapes.
